Meet Sanja Dželalagić, our Health Team Leader

Sanja Dželalagić gained her skills, knowledge, and experience through many years of work in healthcare institutions in BiH and Europe, after which she joined the DRC team as a coordinator of the project dedicated to providing healthcare to the pediatric population. With time, she becomes the Project team leader, and currently, she holds the position of Health team leader in the family camp in Una-Sana Canton and the Pediatric team leader in the family camps in FBiH.

“I am guided by the fact that a well-organized and efficient team raises leads to greater beneficiary satisfaction. Teamwork is an indispensable segment in humanitarian actions and the provision of timely and high-quality services for people in need because there is always an illness or difficulty where we have to be a great support to beneficiaries. Therefore, it is very important to gain the trust of the team members, which I consider that I have largely achieved through my professional work," says Sanja.

Humanitarian activity fosters unity and cooperation and serves as a springboard for the growth of a more just and fair society. It brings together individuals with various backgrounds, and aspirations, people who are motivated by the highest ideal - to improve the lives of others. Sanja's motive in this regard is selflessly giving of herself and supporting those in need on an overall level.

“The focus of my early work in the DRC was on providing healthcare to the most vulnerable subgroup of migrants, notably children in families and unaccompanied minors. Imagine how professional and firm a person must be while dealing with a sick child who has traveled great distances with his family in search of a better life. Then you come across a circumstance where a sick youngster is left alone, far from his home, and without parents. All that happened on the field was resolved satisfactorily thanks to the great DRC medical and pediatric staff,” Sanja made a point.

Sanja’s superiors have recognized her quality, expertise, experience in health care, especially in working with children, and her contribution to the local community as a health expert under the mentorship of university experts in the field of medicine and health.

"Being a member of the enormous DRC humanitarian family makes me proud. Although there are many challenges that we face, when I see healthy and cured youngsters and their radiant smiles, I entirely forget about problems and give myself over to my work as a humanitarian. My biggest prayer is that these kids and their families will one day succeed in fulfilling their dreams," concludes Sanja, adding that she is thankful to her father, who is her everyday support.

Sanja’s twelve-year-old daughter has occupied her world, and most of the free time they spend playing the piano and singing. Sanja is also dedicated to scientific research in the field of health management, which is the main topic of her Ph.D. dissertation at the Faculty of Health Studies. Sanja also often attends seminars and congresses to improve her knowledge in the field of neuro physiotherapy and neurology for children with developmental disabilities. Sanja is also an external associate of the University of Bihać and Mostar and a consultant at the Institute for Brain Research in Munich, as part of which she obtained the title of NFB specialist.
